Gabby’s a Big Girl!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Howard Scott Silverman @ 1:49 pm

Gabrielle tipped the scales at just under 9 pounds, going in to her third week.  A quick back of the envelope calculation indicates that if she continues growing at this rate, she should pass up her dad’s weight by about six months

To put this growth in perspective, if you weighed 150 pounds, you’d have to put on about 20 pounds a week to keep up with Gabby.  That’s a lot of milk!

Question is:  will Mommy’s milk be up to the challenge!

Precocious and Proud

Filed under: Uncategorized — Howard Scott Silverman @ 8:50 am

So, Gabby does all the usual baby things.   Nothing particularly remarkable:  she likes to sleep and eat and poop.

Evidently though, she does it better than most.

  • She entered the world weighing 7 pounds and 9 ounces.
  • She dropped to 7 pounds and 3.4 ounces by Day 2.
  • By discharge on Day 4, she was approaching her birth weight.
  • By Day 6, her pediatrician confirmed she weighed 7 pounds and 14.5 ounces!

Breast-fed babies usually return to their birth weight by week 2!

Daddy was very proud and remarked to the pediatrician (Dr. Sally Roth) “at this rate, Gabby will be at Harvard by the age of 5.”

Dr. Roth’s quick retort:  “More likely weight watchers!”
